Star Wars: The Clone Wars
|
This show has been getting a real beating by the movie critics and reviewers. I have not read a single positive review with even one calling it a 2 hour commercial for Star Wars toys, and many deriding it for having absolutely no plot and character development.
Thankfully the truth is not as bad as those probably biased reviewers had made it to be. There is a story behind the rather silly notion of the baby of Jabba the Hutt being kidnapped by Count Dooku in an attempt to turn Jabba against the Republic. And how Anakin together with his new Padawan Ahsoka had to save baby Jabba and returned him to papa before Jabba fell into Dooku’s deceptions.
Along the way, we are treated to a number of battle sequences involving lots of clones and droids and all the guns and ships and tanks we saw from Attack of the Clones. While there was nothing wrong with those action pieces, the problem is that after being treated to the glorious CGI of ILM in 2 episodes of Star Wars, the animation in The Clone Wars just does not cut it.
As this is Star Wars, a few light sabar duels are obligatory; and again while there was nothing really wrong with Obi-Wan vs Asajj and Anakin vs Dooku, after seeing Yoga vs Emperor and Obi-Wan vs General Greevious in Ep 3, those fights were boring. I was expecting the fights to include stuffs that were too dangerous or impossible to pull off with CGI or in real life but those were probably the least exciting fights I can remember from Star Wars in a long time.
The reviewer does get one thing right and that is Ahsoka was as annoying as hell in the movie. For someone who is supposedly still learning the way of the Force, she was just way too cocky and she does get on your nerve after a while. I have never remembered a padawan that was so accomplished with the use of the Force as Ahsoka was. I think she was a better Jedi in The Clone Wars than Anakin was in Episode 2.
Still it was good to see all the gang back in action especially Obi-Wan, Yoga and Windu., including Padme who was heavily involved in exposing Dooku’s scheme in the end. I was however a little disappointed to learn from the credits that only Christopher Lee, Samuel L Jackson and Anthony Daniels reprised their respective roles for the movie. It was also good to see Anakin as a good Jedi before he was corrupted by the Emperor.
Overall The Clone Wars would probably interest only the die hard Star Wars nut heads who will want to know every last details of the Star Wars mythology. For causal movie fans, this movie offered nothing that is worth paying the price of admission. |

Shockingly bad - from the god-awful opening voiceover, atrocious script and just plain poor animation, to the lame storyline and damp squib of an ending. If you still haven't got the idea how bad this film is, then wait until you see Jabba the Hutt's camp, cross-dressing uncle. Jesus Christ... |

I was excited to see this movie as I hoped it would give me what the prequels didn't, a good solid storyline.
My hopes have been dashed yet again!! The combination of fart jokes and a crossing dressing Hutt totally killed me. Not to mention Anakin walking into Tatooine like nothing ever happened. (Blew all my EU readings out of the water!)
I give this movie half a star cause my kids enjoyed it. |

The movie is clearly for Kids. Don't bother with the multiple continuity issues, George Lucas can do what ever he wants, just don't watch the next one he makes. I would stay away from the cartoon series that is supposed to come out. The last one was horrible. |

Hum hum... |

banking off the major success of legally blonde (and by the same screenwriters, no less), the house bunny is a tale of a dumb blonde who exceeds all expectations and defies all odds to achieve her dreams (or in this case a makeover.) the problem is, all the heart and wit that made legally blonde the franchise it became is missing, and the dialogue and humor is extremely forced (with the exception of emma stone, who has never appealed to me but plays her character's dorky sense of humor authentically). the real problem here, though, might be that the character of elle woods (and reese witherspoon) has forty five times the charm and ultimately empowering message of this film's leading lady (and of anna farris.) or maybe it really was just that the script sucked. |

Woody Allen's newest is also perhaps one of his best. Great performances by Javier Bardem and Scarlett Johansson - as well as Rebecca Hall as Vicky (who was equally impressive in Christopher Nolan's "The Prestige"). The real standout here is Penelope Cruz, who brings fire and passion into the film stealing the scene every time the camera is near her. Marks some of her best English-language (for the most part) work, as well as Allen's. |

i laughed i cried i thought it was ridiculous. there was some overacting here and there by emma stone, okay probably not her fault cuz the script was a bit...
but anna faris was great. she may play a ditz most of the time, but she really gives something to her characters that you know there is something more to her than who she plays. ANYWAYS, the movie was an enjoyable experience, it was touching and fun. |

The animation was suprisingly nice, and apart from the stupid "Sky-guy" cracks and yet another stupid character from George's ever worrying mind... its a pretty good movie. Just dont get your hopes up for an epic movie, the action scenes are impressive, and i was wondering what came to mind with the PG rating at a couple of points (at least it still craps over Ep 1 & 2 put together). |

Special twist, Special agents, and special stakes. Government over us?Are we guilty also? How many faces can their religion have?Good infidels vs. bad infidels that's what this war on terror is all about. We tend to forget our own history sometimes. KKK and Christianity. Innocent bloodshed on both sides presents challenges and this movie directly and indirectly challenges us to view them. Jeff Daniels amps Cheadle to keep going towards the end because of the war. Mentioning that in a war innocent people will die. This movie is an advent to the real world...ps. it would've been 5 stars, but the trailers tricked me lol there aren't too many action scenes. |

A very pleasant and funny movie! Shows that it is actually POSSIBLE to make a GOOD romantic comedy!
Really tho, this is a Woody Allen movie in every sense. A movie about sex and life. Art and love. This means this is not some major piece of work from Woody, but it is still good nevertheless.
I must say I really did connect with this film alot, because with the whole "artists trying to defy society" thing, and I go to a freakin art school! Tho I suppose this is where most of the humor comes from, and I probably enjoy this movie more than most people.
Oh, and Penelope Cruz is great! She plays a feisty bitch, and she's really good at it! Rebecca Hall is really funny as well! She probably has more screentime more than any actor in this film, and yet she's not the main character!
There are 2 complaints that I have.
1. The lesbian "sex" scene. I will admit I went to see this movie after I heard about the hot "lesbian sex scene" MONTHS before the film is released (c'mon! Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz together! count me in!), but it was very disappointing...stupid internet rumors and newspaper articles...they just HAD to exaggerate everything! Or maybe that's just me...but c'mon Woody! Only 5 mins worth of groping between Scarlett and Penelope?! Talents wasted!!!
2. Not sure if the ending worked for me...I probably have to watch the movie more than once to get it. |

Yay, the third movie in a row I've watched that surpassed my low expectations. I hope Emma Stone is in every movie for the rest of the year, which, at the rate she's going, seems possible. Kind of has a School of Rock vibe. Some stupid cliche humor, sure, but I ended up laughing a ton. Also seemed a little more heartwarming to me than these movies usually are. I had a few reasons for wanting to see this. Namely, Anna Faris, Emma Stone, and Katherine McPhee. I didn't really expect to enjoy it that much, but I ended up laughing quite a bit. I laughed at stupid, stupid stuff, but at least I was laughing. It kind of reminded me of Grandma's Boy for some reason. Star Wars for kids is actually pretty good. Since it is for kids, it's pure action and almost no exposition. Also, it was pretty funny, but most of the humor comes from the humanization of the battle droids. Vicky Cristina Barcelona
|
A well made movie from Woody Allen. The dialogue is witty and genuine. The two female leads show the two extreme sides of stability and excitement. Most of us experience something in the middle, but Allen makes a point to show the contrast between Vicky and Christina effectively. The painter and his ex wife is merely a catalyst to show how both types of life styles cannot coexist with the idealistic adaptable style that the painter shows. Stories from the the two girls hosts' wife show what someone who dreams but cannot relinquish what she has is like. An overall good film about life and what people seek in love and why it so often fails. |

Haters be damned. look the bottomline is this shouldnt have been released theatrically, it should have stayed the series premire because as a cartoon show it is very very good, as a film it doesnt live up to the standartds of critics and such. with saying that i will admit that i really dug the action, i mean finally the force is used in a badass way during fights. the animation is top notch for a tv show, it isnt pixar animation but i bet if pixar did a weekly show the animation would look just like this. it is as good as it can be. the story is good, not great. ive read a lot of complaints about anakins padawan, the fact is its being overhyped, i didnt find her half as annoying as one jar jar binks scene. i can not wait for this to go to series. |

Not a total waste of time for one reason: the jaw scene. You'll know what I mean when you see it. That was messed up, but I gotta admit that I've never seen that before.
The acting is pretty bad for the most part. Especially the wife. But even Kiefer wasn't putting on his A-game here. And the little boy was flat-out horrible.
The story isn't too original either. Crazy stuff happens in a creepy location, people die, one person has to solve the mystery of what happened to stop the chaos, etc. These Asian horror remakes pretty much all involve those same elements.
The ending was also way overdone. It was a neat idea, but they just ran it into the ground with way too much over-the-top music.
However, for all its flaws, it was kinda interesting and there were some semi-creepy moments. I didn't fall asleep or anything. It's worth renting for the jaw scene anyway. That's about it. |

My high hopes fell very, very hard. You would think that by making an animated movie, the filmmakers would be able to take the Star Wars saga into places it has never gone before. That the limitations would be gone and their imaginations could run wild like a gang of Ewoks in the Endor jungle? Not so, young Padawan. Logging in as one of the greatest missed opportunities in recent memory, The Clone Wars is about as exciting and interesting as watching a Bantha scratch itself. The Jedi Knights saving Jabba's maggoty son? It pains me to say it but the Star Wars video games have better animation and plots. I feel a disturbance in the Force and it is George Lucas trying to squeeze blood from a stone. Give it up, pal. Give it up. |

Normally, I am not a fan of remakes but in the case of Death Race, I will make an exception. Not only is it an improvement on the original but it stands on its own as a cult classic. Death Race is cranked in drive for its entire running time and rarely gives you time to roll down the window and take a breath. The tributes to seventies exploitation flicks and drive-in classics from the bygone era, are very clever and elevate Death Race above your typical action flick. And, yes, Jason Statham is still very, very cool. |

Star Wars: The Clone Wars
|
I love the way Ben Kenobi negotiates with a separatist general and the way his R4 zapped a Jawa, also the agile Ashoka Tano (Anakin Skywalker's padawan aka student); then the total grim color palettes of charcoal gray, prussian blue, dark violet, dark red wine and soft grayish white, which produced a generally stunning look. Although I think it's still too action-hero colors (ref: Superman, Spiderman, Captain America). However, Ventress, Count Dooku's (these are the bad guys) assassin looks like an anorexic alien from Ant's Bully.
The Aibo-like (Sony's robodog) Droids has more voice and role this time. They're the jokers who'll make you smile (drily) throughout the movie. For jazz lovers, you'll either love or smirk at the peanut-heads species (whose actual name is "Bith") playing swing in New Yorkish capital of the Republic. The Tattoine desert setting kinda remind me of "Storm" comic back in the 80s.
As for the characters, I still think Ben Kenobi's chivalrous conduct is largely built upon sir Alec Guinness from 1979 "Star Wars: A New Hope", while the rest of the characters were so much like "GI Joe". When it comes to an animation movie, you somehow count on voice characters, but this time, it's only Samuel L. Jackson (Jedi Windu) and Anthony Daniels (C3PO) that lived up to your expectation. The politics is trying to cater the young audience. It's tricky and war-like, yet not deadly. A good diplomacy 101 if you plan to bring your kid along, preferably 12+.
If realistic furs and humane grimace is the parameter for a gorgeous computer graphics, perhaps Clone Wars was trying to achieve something else. In the end, it's like watching video games without having to think about best strategy to get out from the bad guys and cramp fingers. Dogfight scenes weren't as deadly as the real movie, tho. I got me to think whether all odd looking planes are fit for flying. Well, perhaps there's no gravity out there. The close combat scenes was okay, since it doesn't involve real human beings..
To sum it up, the Clone Wars isn't a big deal. IMHO, it's a kiddie movie.. |
