This is to fans of "D&D" and other tales of myth & magic like "Star Wars" is to fans of sci-fi and outer space adventures.
Words can't express how amazing this movie is.
This one is the best of the three like usual for movies, it really got you going in the story.
Peter Jackson's ambitious stab at bringing Tolkien's much loved novel to the screen is a real technical achievement. The sumptuous visuals and epic scale bring the world of Middle Earth to life in a way that could never have been attempted before. Unfortunately it is Jackson's faithful adherence to the source text that proves the film's one major flaw. Because, at the risk of angering fluent Klingon speakers everywhere, Tolkien wasn't very good. The plot of Fellowship Of The Ring is flabby, meandering and is littered with irrelevant and pointless asides. The dialogue is a naive collection of cod Olde Worlde speech full of clod-hopping exposition and plain gibberish because of Tolkien's insistence on giving everyone and everything these absurd and po-faced titles. It is bolstered by the performances of veteran thespians Ian McKellern and Ian Holm who bring depth to their characters but the rest of the supporting cast don't get to shine until the brilliantly handled engagements with Sauron's evil forces. But we have to wait nearly TWO HOURS before this happens! With some judicious pruning this film could, and should, have been a solid hour shorter and it would've been much better for it. But I still must tip my hat to Peter Jackson, whose skill has managed the impossible and made a film about elves that I was able to withstand for nearly 3 hours without it leaving me completely comatose...
Quick Review:
The 1st installment to, in my opinion, the greatest trilogy of all time needs little explanation. Just as Star Wars impacted an entire generation of people for decades, Lord of the Rings has influenced a whole new generation of audiences. There is no where you can go where people haven't heard about this masterpiece. The Lord of the Rings is the ultimate movie-going experience. It's thrilling, inspirational, breathtaking, and it will dazzle and awe audiences of all ages and tastes. The characters are memorable, the music is astounding, the cinematography is exceptionally beautiful, the acting was top-shelf, the direction impeccable, the fight scenes were perfect... Get the point? This film is perfect.
Fellowship of the Ring is the 1st film in a series of three that does an exceptional job of establishing characters, setting up the plot, and building suspense and intrigue for future movies. This saga is one long story spread throughout three films, so the cliffhanger at the end of this one is brutal if you saw it in theaters! You had to wait a whole year to find out what happens next.
If you haven't seen this film yet, then you are missing out on the greatest story ever told.
This film had a substantial impact on my life. Once it finished I was so amazed of everything the film had to offer that it was such a mind blowing experience. I had become so engaged with every single character on the screen that I could not wait for the next entry. This was such an exciting epic adventure that made the world middle earth so believable. The direction of Peter Jackson made this film one of the best movies I have ever seen.
certainly my favourite movies, i dont know how many times i have watched, very intoxicating
Amazing! Peter Jackson did a tremendous job at adapting the greatest book series of all time into the greatest film series of all time. Blows Harry Potter out of the water in so many ways. I hope he will direct the Hobbit, couldn't imagine anyone else.

NO MOVIE WILL BE LIKE THE LOTR
LOTR IS THE TOP AND IT'LL REMAIN THe TOP
i love the lord of the rings and never will anything ever top it, like the golden compass is trying too....NEVER
i have said it to my family and all my freinds orlando bloom is the hottest guy but i only feel that way when he has long hair like he does as legolas so i think it is time 4 orlando to grow his hair out
This movie had great graphics, special effects, and the storyline was well planned out.
The scenes created in this movie were dynamic. From the simple village to the elaborate Elfin village. It is a movie that needs to be seen on the big screen to be able to see all the details, although i think you'd have to see the movie several times to catch most of the details.
The special effects are not over done. If fact some of them are almost realistic. I love how they make the fantasy creatures move and interact with the real actors.
The Lord of the Rings books are classic and timeless. They were popular and widely read in the late 60's and continue to be widely read today. The movie still has the essence of the book, even though several items had to be omitted. What a great way to escape into another place and time, even another world!
Those of us who have read the Lord Of The Rings can see what was edited to provide room for for the meat of the story. I too love Tom Bombadil dearly. However, he would have been trite by comparison to the meat of the story and that would not have served his character well.
The reason that Tom and his Goldberry were in the book was the same reason for starting the book in the shire. Simply put, you have to know what it is you are fighting to save or what is the point in the battle?
With all that said, I am so pleased to have been able to see a movie I had always dreamed would be made. Perhaps it will inspire other directors and producers to move ahead with other projects, such as The Dragonriders Of Pern.
Ten stars would not be enough to rate LOTR.
