This started very promising and intriguing. Tim Curry as the clown was perfect, although he wasn't extremely petrifying, he's creepy enough to put you off clowns for sometime. The first scene where he appears down the drain is spooky and shocking enough to keep you watching. The child actors were all very convincing and in my opinion performed better than the adult actors in the second half of the film. It was more interesting watching their little gang take on Pennywise than the pathetic clichéd older gang.
As the film progresses you get more annoyed at hearing the rants and whimpers of the lead characters who all individually receive a visit from Pennywise.
Overall, it's okay, in no way brilliant. You laugh a lot more than you scream and the ending is extremely disappointing and ridiculous. Watch this, if only for the performance of Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown.
One of my fave scary movies. It deepend my fear of clowns when i was younger and scares me more now that I understand about child predators.
When the small New England town of Derry is plagued by a series of child murders, the police are baffled and the local adults terrified. What they don't know is that the malevolent force that's killing the town's youths isn't human but a destructive force out to feed and seemingly nothing can stop it. That is, until a band of rag tag outcasts show up to put a dent in "Its" midnight feeding! Each child has seen the monster (it takes the shape of what they're scared of) and also in its hidden form of a malicious clown named Pennywise (Tim Curry). With a lot of bravery, the kids are able to stop the evil "It" in the sewers beneath their quaint little town. Thirty years later, Mike Hanlon (Reid), the only child from the group to stay in Derry, begins to see another rash of murders and quickly deduces that "It" is back. Without haste, he calls upon his childhood friends to help stop the terror once and for all. In a flash the old gang is back in Derry, including funny guy Richard (Anderson); the asthmatic Eddie Kasprak (Christopher); the only female of the group Beverly (O'Toole); the once chunky Benjamin (Ritter); and the stuttering Bill (Thomas), whose brother was killed years ago by "It." As the group reforms their bond, they'll need everything inside them to face down Pennywise and defeat their darkest fears. Tim Curry's portrayal of the most evil of clowns not only lived up to, but exceeded my expectations. Pennywise is flat-out scary. Curry's facial expressions in some scenes are brilliant and I don't believe they could have picked a better actor to play the killer clown. Jonathan Brandis (Side Kicks, Harts War), Emily Perkins (Ginger Snaps, Insomnia), Brandon Crane (The Wonder Years) and last, but by no means least, Seth Green (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Austin Powers) stood out like a neon light with their on-screen presence. It was fun seeing this movie for the first time in 12 years and recognizing these guys from their later work. The transitions between the adult and kid scenes are smooth, with each character being played as one, not two versions of the same person. This is particularly important in It, because so much depends on the adults' ability to relate to the kid that is still, in some way, back in Derry. If you ever have 3 1/2 hours to kill, you should see It, after all, it's a classic.
Hilarious and creepy! It gave me nightmares for my entire childhood until I discovered Pennywise was funnier than it looks. A scary comedy: excellent cast.
Uh. I think it sucked. I don't remember.
This was totally a pathetic movie. I don't even know why people have told me this was so scary, it was ridiculously horrible. It was long and slow that in the end it led to nowhere. So many scenes that were so unnecessary, they should've been deleted scenes. Maybe if I watched this when I was 8, I'd be scared.
I've never even seen this movie and I had a nightmere about it last night. It was so weird!! So you can imagine that i won't be watching this movie anytime soon...or ever.
okay i thought this was a great movie and i'm not afraid of clowns so i had no problems watching this movie, its just that everyone else i know is afraid of clowns so i have to watch it by myself...LOL...
I hate, hate clowns. I didn't know Seth Green was in this movie? What was he - like 2?
I saw this movie about 15 years ago. Haven't watched it again for the fact that clowns are like scary to me.
this movie was freaky, but NOT freakier than Stephen Kings " The Mist"!
This is a made-for-TV movie that is so bad it's kinda great. Scary when you're under 10 years old, preposterous when you're over 18. "Let's leave the corpse in the hotel room!" the adults decide as they flee the hotel; the pony-tailed writer passionately kisses a childhood friend he hasn't seen in decades, though he's married. And the clown is really a big, crab-like spider, who has "deadlights," we learn late in the movie. Huh? Mike, the "black friend," who has a two-story town home with a backyard, garage-shed, etc., is deemed by the movie a "failure" who lives on skid row, though he runs the local library which has a fridge behind the desk with booze in it. His house could easily fetch $300,000. How has this man been a failure? Huh? What? Maybe "the books explains it all" but the movie should stand alone. There is something captivating about this trainwreck of a movie, in 2007, that does have you riveted to watch it. It's bizarre. Lots of nonsense. But entertaining.
i loved this movie so much it's one of my favourite movie, stephen king is a genuis 'cause most people are afraid of clowns but there a few things wasn't right about the film like:
1. bill (jonathan brandis) was cute when he was little but ugly when he grow up (richard thomas)
2. when beverly (annette O'toole) grow up she was beautiful but when she was young (emily perkins) she was not so beautiful but atleast she was a little ..cute i guess
3. henry bowers look was likea bully when was young and it was perfect but when he grow up he was going to make laugh like lol he wasn't scary at all.
4. bill wife wasn't beautiful at all.
5.at the end IT was a giant spider, aren't it suppose to die when he is like... A CLOWN
okay whoever is posting comments about this movie saying [[this sucks]] or [[he couldve done better]], wtf?
if you dont like the movie, dont go on a page that has it all over. and it was pretty good. [[ben heller was hot as fuck heh.<333333.]] and i dont think this movie was supposed to be "jump out of your seat, scream bloody murder" scary. all of King's movies are supposed to leave you disturbed. and this movie did.
