    *Minor spoilers*
Wow, what an improvement on the 1st instalment. This movie was visually incredible, Del Toro's creatures and set designs are amazing and original. I loved the winged demon and the bone eating Tooth Fairies, very creepy. The only thing I didn't really like were the cheesy one liners from Hellboy himself, for example when he smashes new character krauss's glass helmet he calls him a 'glasshole'... Oh dear! There are some pretty funny moments though, and I love that despite his appearence Hellboy is a sensitive soul. The humans that judge him really got to me, especially that bitch who doesn't even thank him for saving her baby... Deep breaths, it's only a movie! Luke Goss's prince had some impressive choreographed fight scenes. It was an enjoyable experience.

    Directed by: Guillermo Del Toro.
Starring: Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, Seth MacFarlane, Luke Goss.

<<" You must remain fock-yoosed at all times!"..."Fock-yoosed? You know, with that accent, I wouldn't use that word." >>

The story continues soon after the first. The bureau continue to stay under the radar while saving the world every way that they can, but Hellboy starts to feel the pressure of being secluded and different from the world and must face the problems of it all while a mythical world starts a war against the humans and the bureau must stop them before the Golden Army rises.

Del Toro certainly had the strain of competing with the step up in quality of comic book films coming out in the last few years that easily topped his first Hellboy film, so no doubt the pressure was on him this time around...and he does not disappoint as expected, but he has also created something leagues above the first.

What I always felt a bit iffy about with the first one was actually two relatively big points in film...dialogue and story. The characters reigned fine and definitely set up a nice starting gate (aside from the unnecessary young lead character and him being the main focus), but everything felt a little too stale for my liking and the film never jumped beyond its visual brilliance...thats different here. The story is easily more acceptable here but isn't the greatness one would hope for, but what really steps up underneath it all is the characters and especially the dialogue. Richer and easier to like and blend into, the characters each carry a strong center that really is the best thing you can do with a film and with wittier, stronger dialogue, anyone can forget a slightly disappointing plot.

But alongside these main characters that shine, we have an array of sub characters that each have there own little qualities that are no doubt fascinating to watch and when a lot of them are the mythical creatures visioned by the origins of the comic book and Del Toro's brilliant mind, its down to how Del Toro brings it to screen...do you really need to ask if he succeeded or not? The man is simply a visionary and easily the greatest in modern cinema. Matched with some exquisite set design and physical creature effects, his brilliant mind is stamped on every single frame with every single character and object, it really is his best work outside of Pan's Labyrinth and he has easily shown us by now that he is the right man for The Hobbit.

The performances are great, as expected. Ron Perlman is...well Hellboy. We all knew that from the first film. He walks, talks and breathes Hellboy, he's the comic book characters essence in human form and continues to show that here. Selma Blair has her moments to shine but is also balanced with some mediocre delivery, she isn't exactly the greatest actress of this age but her great charisma pulls her through. Doug Jones continues to show he can work as an actor rather then a man behind many masks and Seth MacFarlane, the genius, really is a welcome addition to this world and adds brilliant wit to his character.

Simply put, Hellboy 2 is leaps and bounds above its predecessor. Richer characters, better dialogue, brilliantly and masterfully directed by Guillermo Del Toro and nicely performed by the entire cast. All those points are the mains to make a great film and if it does them well, its obvious that it served its purpose, in this case...brilliantly.

This proves that De Toro can do things by two. First he did Blade 2 and now Hellboy 2 which I have to say was totally brillant. The golden army is just that PURE GOLD. PURE GOLD SCRIPT, PURE GOLD ACTING and even PURE GOLD special effects. The visuals are breathtaking and stunning to watch and I have to say when CGI is done right it looks great and this film shows that in spades. The cgi in this was stunning, mind blowing and incredible to watch. Most of the time I couldn't take my eyes off the cgi creatures as they were done so beautifully that they looked so real. This film has everything, great action sequences, quite a few hilariously funny moments, great memorable characters and great fun to watch. It contains the best robotic punch up that I have ever seen since Terminator. Luke goss also seems to do things by two as well first he worked with Del Toro on Blade 2 as the villain and now he works with Del Toro in Hellboy 2 the golden army as yes you guessed it a villain. I must say that Luke is good at playing villains. Unlike most xomic book adaptations, this one shows the emotional side of the characters which is heartwarming to see. Abe gets a crush, Hellboy and Abe share a karaoke moment that is both touching and funny at the same time. Also the inclusion of the new characters like the tooth fairies, the troll market, the angel of death and the bureau's own alien suspects are a great addition to the sequel. Del Toro goes all out for this one and it shows his visual quite vividly Its like Hellboy meets Pan's Labyrith it's weird, bizzare yet captivating and wonderful. Roll on Hellboy 3

Hellboy 2 suprised me on a astounding level, considering i wasnt much of a fan of the original and i had my doubts about this sequel. The change in direction made all the difference, simply put, the movie was much better then the original. The characters and animation were something out of a fairytale, it made you feel as if true magic was taking place. Amazing animation, costume and designs years ahead of its time, and the plot was much more rich then the original brewing with action and adventure, and of course the wit and comedic appeal that Ron Pearlman brings to the table. Hellboy 2 has a unique aspect to it, riddled with fantasy and wonder, and this is deffineantly a film worth watching.

Not being a fan of the first Helboy movie, I certainly had my doubts about this one. But what I got was a movie which could be in my top 10 at the end of the yearr. The plot was good and not too over the top, but I think it was the action elements that impressed me most.

Well. What can I say about this story. Awesomeness. The visual effects are stunning, the characters are full of imagination and the sound too is great. Liked the transition effects between the scenes. Had a little difficulty with the freeing ending, but it doesn't ruined the movie at all. A Must see.

It's alright, not bad but not good either. Not enough punch for your money and too much timeout. Plays like a drama with a dash of action. Aside from that Antrim's in it and that was the best scene. Funny though, they didn't show the Causeway, odd that.

Absolutely beautiful movie. The visual effects are just amazing and are crawling with rich fantasy.
The storyline wasn't anything to spit at either. It introduced a whole new element of fantasy into the franchise with many interesting characters.
Now to the characters. Ron Perlman still does an amazing job as Hellboy. Hellboy still has his cool attitude with witty one liners. Same for Abe Sapien. He's a very interesting character and there was a funny scene in a movie when him and Hellboy sang together. Liz Sherman by Selma Blair was even cooler in this one than in the first one. Not much else to say really, but there was a good chemistry between her and Hellboy. Krauss was a funny new character. He was kind of like half ghost and half robot. Shows how great and original the ideas in this film are as this character was very unique... and with a German accent. Prince Nuada was a great villain with his sister Princess Nuala who was opposing him. Overall the variety of the creatures in this film is simply amazing. There are so many!
The action scenes as you expect are also exceptional, in particular towards the end. I mean if you've got fascinating creatures like that then surely action involving them will be just as amazing.
If you are a fantasy fan or are overall a fan of modern action films then I would highly advise you to watch this film, because it's definitely a unique one.

it took me a while to see the first one but i knew the next 1 wudn't be as gud if they ever made any more...i was right! this is too slow although there's enough action in it and much more weirdos but the storyline lacks a solid form. Thr script is poor and tries to be funny but it's lame.

Whereas the first Hellboy was a fun little pulp action flick, Hellboy II manages to be more of a sweeping fantasy epic. It's a good direction to go with this story.
My favorite part, though was that the truly interesting cast of characters is still the main attraction here...they in no way get lost amongst the special effects.
