I think it's because they, meaning Fox, don't know a good show when they see it. Ooh, and another thing. They should've aired the actual Pilot first, instead of starting with the train robbery episode. It was witty, fun, thought provoking. At least we got a movie out of it.
Firefly is excellent, so cool (or should I say Shiny), so witty and just plain fun. Awesome SFX for a TV show, great camera work and very talented actors.
Such a pity it was cancelled, there's so much to explore. I really wanted to find out Shepherd Book's history and more about River and Simon would've been cool...
fox cancelled joss whedon's fire fly because didnt generate enough money and the same goes for angel. there are alot of people that like the seris including me.
joss wanted to do more with the seris.but with the movie crammed it all in.
Has anyone read the comic books that link the show to the movie? I hear they're pretty good. I also hear that they'll make more. Is this true? Have you guys heard anything?
Firefly was just about the best show I had seen on TV in forever (ever since The Pretender got cancelled) and to me the movie felt like a new beginning. I keep thinking that any day now they are going to announce that the show is going to start up again.
yeah, but the show would be awful. What would they do with it? They got rid of the moral leader, Book and the comic relief, Wash. All we'd have left was a romance (finally) between Simon and Kaylee and an angry, depressed Zoe... Oh, and I guess somewhat unresolved issues between the Mal and Inara. But, then what do you have? It just wouldn't be the same. However, I do feel that I would follow it in comic book form, which leads me to my earlier question: Has anyone read the comics that link the series with the movie?
It was cancelled because Joss Whedon just uses recycled ideas from every other Sci-Fi movie/TV series ever made, and goes around calling himself a "pioneer of Sci-Fi".
Interesting comments about showing people can change. I guess it could work, but I must admit, Wash was my favorite, so I guess I wouldn't want it to go on without him.
I loved Firefly. it was lighthearted, fun and cool. I wasn't too fond of Serenity however. It took itself too seriously and focused so much on progressing the plot that we didn't get to spend eneugh time with the characters we came to know and love from the show. Also Wash dies, how could they do that? Don't get me wrong, the movie wasn't too bad and it did a pretty good job of wrapping things up and answering most of the fans' questions. Unfortunately, it just didn't live up to such an amazing show.
I heard a rumour that Joss was in the middle of working out how to make several telemovies detailing more about Shepherd Book and Inara among those who didn't get very much screen time in Serenity. Since the Shepherd is there, it is logical to deduce that these episodes will happen before Serenity, and so Wash will be there, too.
I saw Serenity first and then picked up Firefly on dvd, and I love it, although maybe it's good that it ended on a complete high, most of my fave series's have sucked towards the end...X-Files and Angel being prime examples of where they should have ended waaay before they did!
smae with sharoncmiller, i saw the film before i watched the series. i went with my friend who is a total fan of the show and she finally got me into it and i thank her sooo much cause i love the show to pieces. i think its joss's best work!
Personally, I didn't like the show all that much. The combo western, Sci-Fi thing didn't work for me. I watched it when it came back on the Sci Fi Channel, and watched the movie, and in fact, bought the DVD, but I don't consider myself a brown coat.
I never get bored of watching the same episodes over and over again! I met Summer Glau a few months ago and she said that she would love to continue making the series, so lets hope joss decides to.Im sure that after the success of serenity, film companies would love the chance to support it!
There are these fans in Australia writing a screenplay called "bellflower" which is a spin off of firefly. It was really cute, they gave Summer an official T-shirt and a production diary. They looked nervous, but she was really amazed at it, she is a really nice person in real life.
